Middle School

St Brendan's College Middle School curriculum spans Years 7 to 10, with a focus on the distinct developmental needs of early and pre-adolescent learners in Year 7. The Year 7 curriculum introduces a National Curriculum taster, featuring year-long subjects (English, Mathematics, Science, and Religion), semester subjects (Visual Art, HPE, Design & Graphics, Geography, and History), and term subjects (Music and Technology). Year 8 maintains the core subjects and offers wider elective choices in HPE, NRL Rise, Agriculture, Music, Technology, or Art.

In Years 9 and 10, the curriculum aligns towards the new QCE senior system while still emphasising the core learning areas. The National Curriculum framework shapes unit structure, learning experiences, and student outcomes, while at the same time assessment techniques prepare students for the rigors of Senior assessment. Unlike Years 7 and 8, specialised courses emerge, with students choosing four semester units annually from thirteen options. Notably, 'Mathematical Methods, General Mathematics, and Essential Mathematics cater to students’ senior pathways in Mathematics. Year 10 English also provides pathway offerings, with preparatory courses in General and Essential English. Electives such as Concert Band and Contemporary Ensemble continue from Years 7 & 8, aiming to develop senior bands competing at State and National Eisteddfods.
