STEP 1 - Online Application Form

Submit a comprehensive application online by the end of March the year before enrolment. Essential attachments include a birth certificate, school reports, NAPLAN results, Principal's reference, *Doctor's report (*mandatory for boarding students), and these must be attached to the application.

An Administration Fee of $100 (inc GST) per student must be paid via the online portal. This fee is non-refundable.

Families can provide additional documentation and reports to assist with the enrolment selection process. This includes the Reference From Principal Form and/or Reference from Parish Form.

Applications are welcome anytime throughout the year through the College online application. The application will automatically go onto our waitlist.


STEP 2 - Interview

After the closing date, each submission undergoes a comprehensive review. Following this assessment, applicants will receive notifications about the outcome and will be invited to participate in an interview.


STEP 3 - Offer of Enrolment

If your son is offered a place at the School, you will be invited to complete a Confirmation of Enrolment Letter (supplied by the College with the offer of placement). Your letter of offer will have a due date for completion of this step and lapsed offers may be withdrawn by the College.


STEP 4 - Acceptance

Upon return of acceptance, and before the end of the academic year, you will receive correspondence detailing enrolment information in preparation for the forthcoming academic year.

Admission Criteria

St Brendan's College is committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive student body, our enrollment process incorporates specific criteria to ensure a balance between adhering to College values and promoting a varied and enriching learning community.

The following criteria should be considered:

  • Consideration is given to students from local Catholic feeder schools.
  • Consideration is given to those students who have immediate family members who are Old Boys of the College.
  • Consideration for students from other faith traditions who, along with their families, support Catholic education and the EREA ethos.
  • Evidence of good behavior and conduct in previous school records.
  • Letters of recommendation from the Principal and/or Parish Priest.
  • Special consideration is given to students who wish to board at the College, especially from remote areas.
  • All offers of enrolment are at the discretion of the Principal.
  • Enrolment is dependent on availability and a successful enrollment process.
  • International students are accepted only after meeting all Australian Government requirements.

What documents are required for enrolment?

You are required to submit a birth certificate, report cards, and/or NAPLAN results, along with current applicable court orders and immunisation records. For your convenience, we provide a form for the Principal and Parish Priest references. Providing these references is optional

Is there an application fee, and how is it paid?

A $100 application fee is applicable and must be paid via the online payment method within our application. This fee is non-refundable.

What are the age requirements for different grade levels?

Students in Queensland are generally eligible to start Year 7 at the beginning of the school year if they turn 12 on or before June 30 of that year. Subsequently, for each subsequent school year, students progress to the next year level, and the age eligibility is as follows:

  • Year 8: 13 years old by June 30
  • Year 9: 14 years old by June 30
  • Year 10: 15 years old by June 30
  • Year 11: 16 years old by June 30
  • Year 12: 17 years old by June 30


Are there any specific academic prerequisites for enrolment?

We place a strong emphasis on student effort and commitment, valuing the journey of learning and personal development. We believe that genuine dedication to the learning process, coupled with a strong work ethic, contributes significantly to the overall growth and success of our students.

Is there an entrance exam, and what does it cover?

A series of assessments/placement tests will occur in the first weeks at the College. These assessments aim to gauge a student's academic skills, knowledge, and sometimes their learning style. The results of these exams help educators place students in appropriate classes or academic programs that match their abilities, providing them with challenges suitable for their level of proficiency.

Are there any specific health or vaccination requirements for enrollment?

While there are no specific immunisation requirements for enrolment, it is strongly advised, especially for boarders in communal living. Vaccination is a family decision.

How are students placed into classes or academic programs?

The College implements a system of Journey Groups for English, Mathematics, Science, and Geography/History classes. These groups are structured classrooms where students of similar abilities are grouped. Journey Groups are designed to be flexible, allowing students to move between groups. When students demonstrate the necessary skills to handle advanced coursework, they have the option to transition to the Core and Extension classes. Conversely, if students find that they are not coping satisfactorily with certain concepts or topics, they can move to the Foundation Group.

Is there a deadline for submitting enrolment applications?

Our deadline for the subsequent year is the end of March. We accept applications at any time; however, these applications are placed on a waiting list and processed subject to positions becoming available. If you apply more than 12 months before enrolment, your application will not be processed until the deadline at the end of March, along with all other applications for the following year.

Can I be placed on the waiting list if I don't secure a spot in my enrollment year?

Yes! Please ensure you advise the Enrolments Officer if you would like to remain on the waiting list. If your circumstances change, please also ensure you inform us to be removed from the list so that your spot can be offered to someone else.

What is the tuition fee structure, and are there any additional costs?

Are scholarships or financial aid options available?

The Old Boys Foundation offers a scholarship opportunity for current students. Details can be found by clicking here. How does the school support students with special needs?

Students with special needs undergo an assessment by our Head of Learning Support, and based on the assessment, a learning plan is developed to support their unique requirements. We have a dedicated team of Educational Support Officers who work collaboratively to assist our students. Before your son's enrolment journey begins, we will work closely with you to create a personalised plan that addresses his specific needs and ensures a supportive and inclusive educational experience.

What is the school's policy on uniforms and dress code?

We expect all students to adhere to the College policies and guidelines regarding uniforms and dress code. Is transportation provided, or are there recommended transportation services?

Are there parent-teacher conferences or regular updates on student performance?

We conduct parent-teacher interviews via Teams during Term 2 and Term 3. To schedule appointments, please use the booking feature available in Parent Lounge. Are there opportunities for parental involvement in school activities?

Parents have the opportunity to engage in the SBC Parent Connect Group. Meetings are held on the 3rd Tuesday of the month in the Board Room, and participation is also possible via Teams. Parents are welcome to volunteer their time at our annual rodeo—an excellent opportunity to immerse yourself in the SBC family.
