Activities and Wellbeing

St Brendan’s College has a full-time boarding Activities and Wellbeing Officer. Activities are planned on some days before and after school and on weekends.

The sprawling 300-acre campus allows for activities such as mountain bike and BMX riding, hiking, box fit, running club, slippery dip, basketball, tennis, touch footy, poultry club, social innovators club, and much more.

In the local area, boarders partake in Sunday morning meditation sessions, fishing, kayaking, surfing, raft building, beach games, laser skirmish, bowling, shopping trips, visits to the movies, virtual reality world, Yeppoon Lagoon, Farnborough beach, Stoney Creek as well as a variety of shows and expos.

A feature of the Wellbeing program is the onsite Young Men’s Shed where boarders come to relax, chill, tinker with the bikes and fishing rods, build go-karts, play pool and boardgames, maintain the fish tank, plan and organise activities, or just sit and yarn with other boarders. In addition, the Boarder’s Garden is another popular wellbeing space where boarders grow vegetables, look after chooks, and experiment with aquaponics and outdoor cooking. Creating opportunities for boarders to develop social and emotional competence is facilitated through the drum beat program, fire yarning circles and timeout sessions.

Together with St Ursula’s and Rockhampton Girls Grammar, several joint activities are planned that promote social interaction with the local girls' schools. These include dances, trivia nights, etiquette dinners, scavenger hunts, beach games, trips to Great Keppel Island, and community events such as Clean Up Australia Day.
