Technical Production Club

The Technical Production Club provides students with foundational knowledge and hands-on experience in the audio, lighting, vision, and staging elements that sustain the live entertainment industry.

Available to students from Years 8 to 12, participants work on the technical setup, operation, and pack-up for various SBC and external events. Most of these events are held in our purpose-built Chapel and Performing Arts Centre, which is equipped with industry-standard equipment to provide a realistic learning environment onsite.

In their first year, students undertake a weekly after-school tutorial which helps develop introductory skills and teamwork and get directly involved with basic events such as whole school assemblies. In later years, students continue to volunteer for events, while assisting the younger students and extending their skill set in specialist areas. Given the nature of their service to the SBC community, students’ hours are submitted to the LEED (Living Eddie Every Day) Community Service Awards, with several students receiving recognition at Awards Night each year.

The ‘SBC Tech Calendar’ includes assemblies, concerts, masses, presentations, Senior Formal, Musical, lunchtime playouts, music tours and sporting carnivals. They also host events for external users, including the local Catholic primary schools and dance academies, and travel to the Pilbeam Theatre in Rockhampton to be the Stage Crew for the annual CQ Allschools Battle of the Bands competition.

Given the diversity of events, production requirements can occur throughout the school day, as well as on evenings, weekends, and in the school holidays. Note the hands-on nature of the live production industry dictates a moderate to high degree of regular physical activity, including moving and lifting equipment and basic assembly.
