Eddie's Van

For over fourteen years, a hearty meal, kindness, and company have been constants at St Brendan’s College through the Eddie’s Van Project. This initiative perseveres in providing meals and companionship to individuals in the Capricorn Coast community who may have faced difficult times. Operating every Thursday from 5:00 pm to 5:45 pm for 49 weeks a year, the project is stationed at the St Vincent de Paul car park on John Street. Since 2008, students from St Brendan’s College have volunteered their time to serve and engage with 'clients,' offering not just a one-off meal but also regular hot meals, a cuppa, and friendly conversation.

St Brendan’s College modeled this project after similar initiatives run by Edmund Rice Education Australia (EREA) Colleges, a collective of schools providing Catholic education in the tradition of Blessed Edmund Rice, the guiding figure under which the College operates. With justice and community service as core values, the Eddies Van contributes to the student's development, fostering confidence and a heightened awareness of social responsibility.

To be a part of this impactful initiative, students can easily register their interest at Student Reception and are welcome to turn up whenever they wish to volunteer. The hours volunteered contribute to LEED (Living Eddie Every Day) accumulative hours for students. Owned, operated, and funded by St Brendan’s College, the Eddies Van receives additional support from local businesses that generously contribute to this commendable cause.
