Rodeo Thursday, 05 Sept 2024

The St Brendan’s College Rodeo was a resounding success this past weekend, drawing in impressive crowds and showcasing the incredible support from our community. The college extends heartfelt gratitude to all sponsors, especially our new naming rights sponsor, Aussie Gold, whose generous contributions ensured everyone stayed hydrated throughout the day.

Event organiser Chantelle Ludcke highlighted the pivotal role of community involvement, stating, “This event’s success is due to the unwavering support from our Capricorn Coast community, who come out to back us every year. Organising a full rodeo program is a massive undertaking that requires significant effort, but seeing so many people turn up makes it all worthwhile, and we are truly thankful.”

The rodeo kicked off with the highly anticipated SBC event, where St Brendan’s College students competed fiercely for the coveted SBC buckle. The following students delivered outstanding performances:

Junior Steer Ride:

  • First place: McKennon Haley
  • Second place: John Whitehouse
  • Third place: Kody Hollis

Senior Steer Ride:

  • First and Second place: Charlie McClelland and Kayde Johnson
  • Third place: Jhett Diplock

Junior Bull Ride:

In a touching tribute, the inaugural Dusty Lonergan Memorial Buckle for All Round Cowboy, generously donated by his parents, was awarded to Rodeo Captain, Mac Flood, in memory of a beloved student and active rodeo club member lost earlier this year.

Mini Bulls (11-14):

  • Second place: Kody Hollis
  • Third place: Jyren Kylen

In the Australian Professional Rodeo Association events, SBC students also excelled:

  • Third place in 2nd Division Saddle Bronc Ride: Jesse Remfrey
  • Second place in Junior Team Roping (heel): Cruz Leahy
  • Fourth place in Junior Steer Ride: McKennon Haley
  • Second place in 2nd Division Bull Ride: Jhett Diplock Barron

The college also proudly noted the participation of many of their Old Boys, whose remarkable skills added to the vibrant atmosphere of the event. The grand entry featured a spectacular display by current SBC Rodeo Club members and SBC Old Boys, making it a truly memorable occasion.
